Martini Glass, Filling

darkman.jpg

this picture was taken Dec. 1 2000. It's me, about 15 min. before I passed out in the hallway, after another drink. We had our 'around the world' that night. $400 worth of booze was consumed. Not the worlds greatest pic, but the only one of me I have on my hard drive.

This area provides not only a list of favorite alcoholic beverages among my colleagues here at campus, but throughout life and liesure with friends. And what's more amazing (could anything get more amazing?), are the poems that I've written after various 'chemical intervention' experiences, or that relate to booze in some form. Finally, a promotion of a marvelous drink, created especially for a party in honor of the Final Four game of 2000. Enjoy

All right. First off, beer is one key element to a Madison, or actually, any experience with alcohol. The top reccommendations include (and bottles, not cans..c'mon (provided it's not a kegger):

1)Pansy beers, good only to get drunk with fast. The top selections in this catagory, and fav's of myself and others, include Rolling Rock, and MGD...for the purpose listed above, they still have a good essence, and go down oh so smooth.

2)The drinking beers, beers you get drunk with, but that you also love to drink. These include a long list of Leinekugel's...tops being Berry Weiss, Red, and Honey Weiss.
Also in this mid-range catagory, would be some micro-brew ambers or pale lagers. Fav's for my crouwd include selections from Harbor City Brewing Co. (Port Washington, WI), Berghoff Black and Tan

3)Now these are the beers you drink strictly to enjoy. Fav's include Guiness Stout, Main Street Amber Ale (has a delicious chocolately overtone), Leiny's creamy dark, and Hacker-Pschore (ok, spelled that wrong) Stout. There are so many other good beers out there..that I suggest you take your time to find favorites to fit all of these catagories. Drinking is a very personal taste and identity, so don't fall victim to going with the crowd, get your own taste.

DRUNK

the clatter of
broken dreams
emulated in the
shatter, slow motion,
of the brown
sugar glass, from my
numb and awkward hands,
diaspora spilled mind
killed time,
disturbing art of
disaster.

TWO MINUTES LATER

Tango in a
plastic cup,
waltzing down
what's labeled up
a spoon too soon
spitting lips,
cakes and
silence splitting
quips.

There is an issue that needs to be taken care of...malt beverages that are not beer. Sublime, Hard Lemonade's, Wine Coolers...these all taste great, and go down smooth, but really, for the amount of space you're going to fill in your gut before you get a buzz, they are not worth it. Also, pulling out a case of Wine Coolers to watch a football game, or get rowdy, is not a thing to do...keep these for a mixed and more civilized crowd of guys and girls, as feel good drinks, or as chasers to hard shots.

On five women, and shots

The desire
I create
holding a trance
on liquered eyes,
fawning
at my form for
a sip of forbidden,
happy till the
magic runs dry
and heaves
lack humidity,
closed my door
on troubled sleep.

The above poem, makes it clear that now it's time to discuss harder drinks.

Here at Madison, because of simplicity and availablity, Vodka and anything makes a great, and favorable drink. Screwdrivers are great. If you have more booze and money and time, White Russians are keen. Rum and Coke is a classic, and having around the worlds provide an opportunity to mix and match liquors to your hearts content. However, it's extremely advisable not to go too fast, the results are no fun. Also, never make your final drink a green one...(just think about it). Watch out for Cement Mixers (the shot will curdle in your mouth), but have fun with others. The poem above was in regards to getting rid of a rancid bottle of cheap tequila (I did not drink at all, but became bartender for random people around the dorm). Finally, here is the recipe for an amazing drink, created here, by Abe Vaccaro... The Pink Panther.

The Pink Panther:

In a 12 oz glass with crushed ice, mix:

2-3 shots of Vodka to preference (any kind, but the smoother the better, how about Absolute, or for $ try Skyy)

2-3 shots of Rum to preference (unspiced is better...try Bicardi)

briefly stir the liquor together.

fill the remainder of the glass with a 2:1 ratio raspberry juice to lemonade. Stir again.

Sit back and enjoy the smoothness, and the feeling of drinking brisk, and refreshing potent water...hahaha.

I prefer the 6 shot version of this drink. again, be careful, just because it tastes like raspberry water, it is a potent drink.
